Position Summary
The Teacher is responsible for the planning, instruction, assessment, and care of assigned students at the Islamic School of Staten Island. The Teacher delivers high-quality instruction aligned with the ISSI curriculum, fosters a safe and respectful classroom environment, and integrates Islamic values and character development throughout the learning experience. The Teacher also performs other duties as assigned by the Principal that are consistent with the professional responsibilities of a teacher.
Responsibilities & Expectations
A. Instruction & Curriculum
-
Plan, prepare, and deliver instruction aligned with the ISSI curriculum and grade-level standards.

Develop weekly lesson plans and submit them for review on the schedule established by the Principal.

Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.

Integrate Islamic values and character development across subject areas where appropriate.
-
Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and behavior using School-designated platforms and systems.
B. Classroom Management & Student Care
-
Establish and maintain a safe, organized, and respectful classroom environment.
-
Provide appropriate supervision of students during instructional periods, transitions, recess, and dismissal as assigned.

Enforce School policies on conduct, dress code, and academic integrity consistently and fairly.

.Respond promptly to student needs related to safety, well-being, and learning
C. Assessment & Reporting
-
Administer formative and summative assessments in line with the curriculum schedule.

Grade student work, enter scores into the School-designated gradebook, and complete report cards by published deadlines.

Identify students showing signs of academic difficulty within the first four (4) weeks of each marking period and coordinate appropriate intervention with the Principal and support staff.
D. Parent & Community Engagement

Communicate with parents regularly regarding student progress, behavior, and upcoming events through School-approved communication channels.

Attend parent–teacher conferences, open houses, and other parent engagement events as scheduled.

Respond to parent emails and messages within two (2) school days.

Maintain a professional and constructive tone in all parent communications, consistent with the values of ISSI.
E. Collaboration & Professional Development
-
Attend all required staff meetings, grade-level meetings, and professional development sessions.

Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum planning, vertical alignment, and student support.
-
Meet any annual professional development requirements established by the School, including any mandatory training sessions designated by the Principal.

Incorporate new instructional strategies and best practices into classroom teaching on an ongoing basis.

Cover classes and supervise students when assigned by the HR Director.
Qualifications

Required

Bachelor's degree in Education or the relevant subject area.

Demonstrated experience teaching at the assigned grade level or subject.

Strong classroom management skills and the ability to engage diverse learners.

Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Proficiency with School-designated instructional and record-keeping platforms.

Alignment with the mission and values of ISSI.
Preferred
-
State teaching certification appropriate to the assigned grade/subject.
-
Prior experience in an Islamic or faith-based school setting.

Familiarity with the ISSI curriculum and assessment framework.
Physical & Other Requirements
-
Ability to supervise and respond to students during instructional periods, transitions, recess, and dismissal.

Ability to remain mobile within the classroom and school environment throughout the school day.

Satisfactory completion of all background checks and clearances required by the School and applicable law.
